Challenge

As the boundaries between labor, learning, and purpose blur, what does it mean to "retire"? This project explores a speculative future for labor in Berlin, questioning if we are destined to work until we drop.

Process

We conducted a cross-demographic study of Berlin’s current retirement landscape, analyzing the intersection of age, gender, and economic status.

Speculative Inquiry

Using "What-if" scenarios and a futures wheel, we mapped out provocative outcomes to challenge traditional notions of wealth and privilege.

The Outcome

We designed a speculative system for the year 2035: The Lottery of Life.

This system replaces traditional pension models with a randomized distribution of wealth and the "right to rest." The final output included a futuristic video, a program booklet, and a physical notification device that alerts winners when their labor is officially over.
